Guild Wars has built-in countermeasures to avoid asshats. All of us have failed at one time or another with implementing those. I now set my course to do just that. In game, and out of game.

When someone disgree's with a city councilman in their local area, they stand, give their point, and cite why they are approaching said aim. They are noted, and a discussion of mostly calm, sane, and sensible things occur. Not always, but human nature begs a certain amount of chaos laced in for taste and sustaining the great adventure of life.

On the internet, when someone disagree's with another person about something, they will sometimes go for the jugular, but in many cases, they post a sincere reason why they feel the other person is misguided or misinformed, or outright full of crap.

When that happens in the real world, depending on your character, background, and where you live, this results in a debate of intelligent beings, trying to sway the other to their side, or having the sheer ability to agree to disagree.

When that happens on the internet, more often than not, there is a spontaneous moron attack. All within the attack field are hit for +90 moronic drool splash damage. No amount of mana, energy or stamina can withstand the veritable deluge of the mornoic hordes, once the war drums sound.

They will kick, bite, scream obscenities, threaten bodily harm, make up false accusations, fake their own deaths, create elaborate (ironic) ploys to win favor with moderators and the gods, and generally do everything in their considerable argument of stupid, EVERYTHING EXCEPT prove their argument to be the superior item that is being contested. They will quote you in small pieces, and create the illusion (mesmers hehehe) that you are a dumbass, when in reality, their refusal to read and post from your ENTIRE response is proof they have no mental capacity beyond paste.

People cannot stand to be told they have nothing of value to say, despite the fact that a great number of human beings speak often but have rarely anything of value to add to a conversation. People love to be in the light, to be right, to feel the sense of almighty power that comes with "owning" someone, even at the expense of their sanity, dignity, and peer standing.

In the real world, people who behave in the paragraph two up from this one have their teeth kicked in, their dog shot, their tires slashed, and generally get thrown from bars, malls, walmart, etc. In the real world, screaming obscenities in public is called a disorder, for which there is medication for.

On the internet, people behaving in that manner get their name plastered in colored text. They get reactions from people who cannot physically strangle them into silence, so they have to respond. These people need that response. They need to feel that beyond their monitor screen, someone other than the 62-year old former callgirl who lives next door to them care whether they live or die. They need us more than we need them. They have a need that has a +34 roll on all ignore-them rolls, and most of us, at one time or another, fail that roll.

From here on out, I am rigging my set of dice...

I just have one question, was there a reason for this thread or are did you just...want a place to type out common knowledge...? My first response to the post after reading it was..."Yeah...that's...really pretty common knowledge...why am I being told the obvious?"

Yeah common knowledge, but i hope you feel better 8) nothing can change mass actions but time. look at the war in Iraq (uh oh i went there) Once something begins to happen on a large scale once it reaches a certain point it is nearly impossible to change without carefull thought and much retrospect. The point of no return is never obvious.

Piexags, I cannot read what you wrote, as you are on my ignore list, for reasons I need not speak about further, but inferring from the post after yours, I am surmising it has something to do with 'no shit sherlock' or some other such nonsense to make you feel superior to...an avatar.

I agree, it is common knowledge, but not to as many people as people would think.

The first 2 responses to this thread scream it is uncommon. They had nothing to add that involved rational thought, so they typed gibberish, or quipped I take the internet highly serious, totally taking the OP out of context, not responding to it, and in fact being the very theme of the OP. Therefore, take it or leave it, the scene before you is plain as day, I felt the need to get that off my chest, and someone made it prophetic. Ironic.

I knew I wasn't the only one wondering about that point. Yeah it's mostly true, but uh...well it's also something that's been discussed in 1,000 other threads on these very forums. I run into assholes in real life, and on the internet. Allow me to sum up the OPs thoughts in a few words. "There are assholes on the internet who'd get the crud kicked out of them were they to act the same way in real life." Yeah, true enough. I guess what really busts my balls is how whenever there's a post not praising SOTs brilliance he regards it as..."Carbon copied, insipid, sad, and utterly devoid of meaning". Go figure.
